Chapter 1

It's Roseline's 19th birthday, and her mansion is decorated like a fairyland.

Jacob Evans's life revolves around his daughter Roseline. He loves her most in this entire world. After his wife Emilia's death, Jacob raised her with both motherly and fatherly love.

She is his only daughter. No siblings. So Jacob's whole world revolves around Roseline, aka his Rose.

He raised his daughter in a very protective environment. Far away from the cruelty of this dangerous world.

He thought that he was doing everything for her betterment only if he knew that not everyone is innocent like his little girl and could take advantage of her.

"My princess is looking beautiful as always." Jacob said, looking at her descending figure from the stairs.

She is wearing a beautiful crimson long dress, complementing her gray almond shaped eyes and brown waist-length hair. Looking like an angel to his father came from heaven.

"Thank you, Dada." She replied, smiling.

Jacob kissed her forehead and said, "Come, everyone is waiting for you." and take her to the hall where the party is going on.

Everyone wished her a happy birthday, and she thanked them. Then a young man comes to her father.

A young man in his early twenties. Charmingly handsome, Roseline noticed his beautiful smile with dimples. He is not so tall, but tall enough compared to her height. He might be around 5'8 tall with mesmerizing black orbs with raven hair and an oval-shaped face and thin lips.

"Good evening, sir." He wishes her father and then turns to Roseline and looks at her before wishing her "Happy birthday, Ms. Evans."

"Thank you." Roseline replied with a courteous smile.

"Oh, Victor, my boy." Jacob exclaimed while patting his back. "Rose, honey. He is Victor Anderson, my new managing director. Although he is very young, he has potential. I'm sure he will be a successful man in the future." Her father praised him.

Rose nodded at her father's words, then Victor turned to her and gave her a small box. "Your present, miss."

"Ummm...I-I can't." She hesitated.

"Please, I insist." Victor said with a smile, and then Tiffany came, her father's secretary.

Tiffany Smith is a woman that Roseline considers the epitome of beauty. She has a good height of 5'7 without heels and her green eyes that slay with her blonde hair. She is lean and gorgeous. A woman every man desires.

"Take it, Roseline. He brings it, especially for you." Tiffany said, and hearing the words especially melted her heart, so she accepted the gift.

"Thank you, Mr. Anderson." She takes the box shyly.

"Open it." Tiffany insisted, and she opened it. It's a chain with a beautiful rose pendant.

"It's beautiful. Thank you so much, Mr. Anderson." Roseline thanked him, looking at the beautiful gift.

"Please call me Victor." He insisted, and Roseline nodded, smiling.

Then she cut the cake with her father, and everyone sang for her. She is happy, but still alone.

She doesn't have friends because her father did her schooling from home, and she will do the same for college as well.

So she doesn't know anyone besides her father's secretary and her house staff.

She never had friends, as she never got out of this house. Tiffany is the only person that she calls a friend because whenever she comes home for work, she is always very kind to her. So, Tiffany excused them and took her with her while teasing about the pendant. Roseline rolled her eyes at her drama.

Then someone called Tiffany, and she left. Again, Roseline left behind all alone.

She looked around, and there was no one for her; even in a room full of people, she was alone. Everyone here is busy pleasing her father. They are here for him, not her.

She huffed and went out into the garden. Looking at the stars and missing her mother. Her life was different when she was alive, and everything went up and down after her mother's death.

She becomes her father's center of attention. He is always overprotective of her.

He gave her everything, yet she is lonely. She sees the chain around her neck, and a smile appears on her lips.

"Why have you abandoned your own party?" Victor asked, standing beside her, and she flinched because she didn't know when he had come. "Oh, I'm sorry. I don't want to scare you." He apologized.

"No, it's OK. I didn't see you coming, so I got startled." She replied politely.

"OK, if you say so." Victor replied, "But why are you here alone? There was a huge party going on just for you." He asked.

"Yeah." She replied with a sad smile.

"Hey, what's wrong? It's your birthday; why are you sad?" He asked while holding her chin.

"No, it's nothing." She lied, turning her head to the other side.

"You feel lonely, don't you?" He asked, and Roseline looked at him, surprised. How does he know?

"You must be wondering how I know. Right? Because I know loneliness. I suffered the same after my parents died." Victor whispered sadly.

"Oh, my God! I'm sorry. I didn't know that." She apologized.

"It's ok, dear. I was only 5 when I lost them in an accident." He said that, and Roseline felt so sorry for him.

At least she has her father, but he has no one. Tears welled up in her eyes.

"Hey, don't cry." He said that while wiping her eyes. "Tears don't suit these beautiful eyes." He said that while looking straight into her eyes, and she smiled shyly.

Her body feels goosebumps from the slight touch of his. She never had such proximity with the opposite gender.

Her heart starts beating fast. It's a foreign feeling that she never had before.

"It's cold. Let's get inside." Victor said, and they broke eye contact.

She came inside with him, and he accompanied her all night. She doesn't feel lonely anymore, and there is a genuine smile on her face. Which satisfied her father.

After the party, she came back to her room, holding the chain in her hands and smiling continuously as it was plastered on her face.

His words and his actions keep repeating in her mind again and again. No one showed such affection to her, and when the first time someone did, she liked it.

The next day, she was having breakfast with her father when Victor came with some files.

He signed them, and Roseline invited Victor for breakfast. "Please have breakfast with us."

"No thank you, Ms. Evans." He replied, smiling.

"Call me Roseline, and please join us." She insisted, and he sat beside her.

Maid served breakfast to him, and he tried to pick up juice when his hand brushed with Roseline's, and she felt sparks.

Jacob's phone rang, and he excused himself.

"How are you, Roseline?" Victor asks.

"I'm good. Thank you." She replied, smiling. Then her father takes Victor to his study.

She goes to the garden and plays with her little munchkin, Dobby. He is a little Maltipoo dog. Her only companion.

She is so engrossed in playing with him that she doesn't know that Victor is standing behind her.

But Dobby started barking after looking at him, and Roseline turned to see him.

"Dobby, don't. Dobby." She tried to calm him, but he was growling at Victor, showing his teeth.

"Easy boy, easy." Victor tried to calm him, but Dobby jumped on him, and he fell into the fountain.

Roseline couldn't control herself and burst out laughing.

"Hahahaaha. Victor, you got scared by a little puppy. Hahaha." She is laughing hard and holding her stomach.

"He jumped on me." Victor tried to justify himself.

"He won't eat you...hahaha." She is laughing non stop.

"What if he did? Then? Will you be worried or laughing?" Victor asked, coming out of the water, and her breath hitched in her throat. "Huh? Tell me, Roseline." He came closer to her, just a step away, and she stopped laughing, but her heartbeat was increasing.

"Victor." She whispered and took a step backwards, but she tripped, and Victor held her instantly by her waist.

And watching him hold her, Dobby started barking even more.

Roseline frees herself from his hold and scoops Dobby into her arms.

"I'm sorry...."

"Don't be. It seems like he doesn't like me, but it's ok. I will become his friend, and I will fall a thousand times into the water. Just to see you happy." Victor said that while cutting her off.

Hearing his words, her heart skipped a beat, and she ran inside. Don't know how to respond or react because his words are doing something strange to her.
